Genital herpes causes as one or more blisters on and around the genital area in both women and men. This is because the virus travels down the nerve fibers to the site of the original infection and reaches the skin. The sudden outbreak of blisters may even leave ulcers and sores that may take times to heal when the first time they occur. Typically, another outbreak can appear weeks or months after the first, but it almost always is less severe and shorter than the first outbreak.

Causes of Genital Herpes

People may get infected genital herpes when they fail to follow safe sex practices. The genital herpes mainly caused by? sexual contact (having vaginal, anal, or oral sex) with a person who has infected Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV). The viruses are primarily released from the sores that this infection brings, and these sores are present in the genital area. The Herpes Simplex Virus is the most common of the herpes family of viruses. There are two types of these viruses :

  • Herpes Simplex Virus type 1 (HSV-1), which usually causes infections of the mouth and lips (Cold Sores)
  • Herpes Simplex Virus type 2 (HSV-2), which usually causes Genital Herpes

Most genital herpes is caused by HSV-2, but it is increasingly being caused by HSV-1 because of? the raising popularity of oral sex. The Transmission can occur from an infected partner who does not have a visible sore and may not know that he or she is infected. You can get infected easily and not recognize the problem for a long time, so it?s always a good idea to ensure that you use a condom.

Symptoms of Genital Herpes

  • Most individuals infected with HSV-2 are not aware of their infection? because they may have very mild signs. Most of them never have sores and do not even notice or that they mistake for insect bites or another skin problems.
  • If the signs and symptoms occur during the first outbreak,? you will be able to see a few of them after the virus is transmitted. They usually begin as a rash of red bumps. Then, the bumps turn into blisters. The blisters and sores appearing in the genital area and each blister is typically only 1 to 3 millimeters in size, and they tend to be grouped into “crops?. It is common for the blisters to open up and sometimes causing severe pain. These sores will be heal completely on their own within 2, 3 or 4 weeks.
  • During the first outbreak, some people may develop the other signs of genital herpes including :
    • Discharge from penis or vagina
    • Painful urination
    • Fever
    • Headache
    • Swollen and tender lymph nodes in the groin
    • Muscle ache
  • People with genital herpes can expect to have several (typically four or five) outbreaks (symptomatic recurrences) within a year. The problem should be identified in the initial stages, rather than towards the end.

Prevention

To prevent the risk of developing the genital herpes :

  • Abstaining from any sexual contact form until symptoms have gone is the best protection against herpes and other STDs
  • Maintaining ?a long term mutually monogamous relationship with a partner who has been tested and is known to be uninfected
  • Use latex condoms when having sex. Herpes lesions may occur in areas that can be protected or covered by a condom, but they also may occur in areas that cannot be protected or covered by a condom. Correct and consistent use of latex condoms can reduce the risk of genital herpes.
  • Do not kiss when there is a cold sore around the mouth
  • Do not have sex while symptoms are present
